Please note: This post is not meant for us to convert a soul. That is the duty of The Holy Spirit. Our calling is to plant the seed and pray that it falls on good soil.
About 51% of Churchgoers do not know how to articulate the Gospel, yet alone to share it. Many know or may have heard that Jesus died for our sins. But if we were to question everyone’s morality you will realize that we all have different views on what sin is. In the eyes of God, sin is determined based off his law, the 10 Commandments. This much I want to help by sharing with you a technique on how to share the Gospel in the most effective Biblical way, with The Law of God, The 10 Commandments.

Preaching The Cross is Foolish To Those That Are Perishing
Preaching the cross to a perishing soul may count has foolish (1 Corinthians 1:18). The reason they may see it as foolish is because they do not understand how serious sin is. Scripture tells us that without the knowledge of sin we will not know what is considered to be sin (Romans 7:7-12).
It is the Law of God hat brings about the knowledge of Sin. Scripture tells us that the law is written on hearts and our conscience bears witness to it (Romans 2:15). A watered down Gospel brings false repentance which leads to false conversions.
The Gospel is being watered down in many churches today. That is why we see a lot of hypocrisy. The Gospel that is being preached in many churches today, sadly, even my own Romanian Church I grew up in is preaching the gospel of prosperity. But, this is a false Gospel.
Fearing God is a Good Thing
The true Gospel I’m talking about stirs up godly fear. Many of my brothers and sisters would debate that preaching the 10 commandments may scare or offend people. Truthfully, it is offensive because its truth exposes our darkness (John 3:19-21). But warning others about the judgement to come is one of the best motivators to accept Christ because it portrays the need of a Savior.
Those that are living in iniquity are storing up God’s wrath every day. Scripture tells us that God is angry with the wicked all day long (Psalm 7:11). Preaching God loves everyone is a false Gospel and not true. He only loves His Children and we know from Scripture that not everyone is God’s children (John 8:44). Therefore, when people see sin for it’s true, destructing nature they will fear God’s wrath and motivate them to accept who Jesus says he is.
“Fearing God is the beginning of wisdom.”
Proverbs 9:10
If fearing God gives wisdom, that means preaching judgement on those that are perishing is a wise start to your mission of sharing truth. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31). Even Jesus tells us to fear God. Luke 12:5, “But I will warn you whom to fear: fear Him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, He’s the one to fear.”
The 10 Commandments is The Moral Law
The Law of God is perfect (Psalm 19:7). You find no flaw in its moral value. The 10 Commandments are called the “Moral Law”. Which means this is the scale to determine “how good” you are. I stated earlier that it is God’s law that brings about the knowledge of sin and it’s lantern to us helping to shed light on darkness.
The Law is so perfect that it helps convert the soul, that is what Psalmist is saying in Psalm 19:7. What does that mean? It means that The Law of God is the mirror to our hearts and it exposes our lawlessness. It helps shed light that we are in desperate need of a Savior. Paul explains it best in Galatians;
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster…”
Galatians 3:24
A Schoolmaster is what we are guided by to learn sin. Therefore the 10 Commandments is the standard of determining what sin is. The Bible’s Ten Commandments are God’s eternal moral law. It is what God’s heavenly government is based on and all the created beings.
The earthly sanctuary (tabernacle) that contained the Ten Commandments was a “shadow” or a copy of the one in Heaven (Exodus 25:16-21). Now look at these verses,
…”For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the FIGURES OF THE TRUE; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.’“-Hebrews 9:24
The tabernacle was a “figure” a “shadow”, a copy of the one already in Heaven. Therefore, the 10 Commandments inside the Ark of The Covenant are a copy of the one already in Heaven. Scripture confirms this in Revelation 11:19. In John’s vision, he saw the temple of God and the ark of His testament inside which contained the 10 Commandments, God’s eternal moral law which his government is based on. These verses show me that without a doubt, God’s 10 Commandments were in existence before this earth was created, and that every being is subject to them.
The Word of God in the Bible confirms the eternal nature of God’s Law, and that those who truly love the Lord and follow Him are the one’s who are keeping the Bible’s 10 Commandments, God’s eternal law of love through the power of The Holy Spirit.
Lay Out The Commands (Exodus 20)
Now that we know the importance of the law, you must learn how to articulate it. When you speak to a perishing soul you want to start questioning them with the last 6 commandments of the 10 because those are most commonly believed in when speaking about justice. They are directed to our relationship with others.
- Do not worship any other gods
- Do not make any idols
- Do not misuse the name of God (in vain)
- Keep the Sabbath holy
- Honor your father & mother
- Do not murder (Jesus said if you hate a brother, you have committed murder)
- Do not commit adultery (Jesus said if you lusted in your mind, you have committed adultery)
- Do not steal (indifferent of value)
- Do not lie
- Do not covet
Usually, when I’m share the Gospel, I start off with questioning them about they believe they are a good person directing my next question into the law; “Have you ever lied?” Then about stealing, murdering (Jesus said if you hate a brother you have committed murder, Matthew 5:21-22), adultery (Jesus said if you look with lust you have committed adultery, Matthew 5:27–28).
Scripture teaches that if you have broken one of the commands you have broken all (James 2:10).
We are all guilty and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23).
The issue is our heart and sin starts in the heart. We are in desperate need of a heart and Spirit transplant (read more about being born again here).
When you share the Gospel, you want to point out that we are sinners and in need of a Savior. This is the point of the Gospel and without the The Law we will not know how we transgressed against God. The Schoolmaster is there to help us shed light on darkness and determine what God sees as sin, not ourselves nor what society shapes sin to be.
God is a Holy God
We are created in the image of God which means we are just beings. God being the center is so holy that not only will he punish murders and rapists. But he will punish idolaters, liars, fornicators, the faithless, sorcerers, etc (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). I also want to make this clear to the perishing soul that they must understand that God is so just that he will go thus far of punishing the “whitest” of lies, as many try to justify themselves to be.
“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:8
Promptly showing the law, testifying that we are sinners, and now giving them grace.
Shine Grace
Once you have exposed sin for its true nature we want to shine God’s grace.
Ask, “Do you know what God did that you may not have to end up in hell?”
You will be surprised to hear them say, “Sent Jesus” or “Sent his son”. Many may not even know that much and many may know but forget the what.
Remind them. Share this good news that we have salvation in Jesus. Then give them the legal application of Jesus’ death by using court room analogies.
The Moral Law is the 10 Commandments. You and I broke God’s law. Jesus paid the fine. The last words Jesus said on the cross were, “It is finished” (John 19:30). In other words, the debt has been paid.
Here is the analogy:
“If you were to stand in a court of law for receiving a dozen tickets, you will not be judged on the good deeds you have done but on the crime you did. The judge would say to you, “Good that you have done those charities, like you should, but because you have a dozen tickets your price is jail. However, this man has paid your bond and you are free to go.”
That is what happened on the cross.
It’s by grace alone and the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus that we have a way into God’s eternal kingdom.
Not by Works, but by Faith through Grace
Our good deeds will not help us get to heaven.
“For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
This was done that no man should boast, so if you were to boast, boast in the salvation that Jesus has brought through his cross and resurrection.
Our works will not buy our way to heaven. In fact Scripture tells us that they are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) and do nothing for God. However, out of our love for Christ and saving our soul our conversions should produce faith works (James 2:14-26).
Repentance + Trust
After you explained the undeserving grace you must further explain what they must do.
Repentance and whole lot of trust.
Repentance, means turning from sin and putting their trust in Jesus, further sharing the basics of the ABC’s of salvation.
A. Admit you are a sinner.
“There is no one righteous, not even one … for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:10,23. (Also see Romans 5:8; 6:23.)
Ask God’s forgiveness.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
B. Believe in Jesus
(put your trust in Him) as your only hope of salvation.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (See John 14:6.)
Become a child of God by receiving Christ.
“To all who receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 (See Revelation 3:20.)
C. Confess that Jesus is your Lord.
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (See verse 10.)
Here is a video from Living Water Ministries , the ministry utilizes the 10 Commandments and many have come to realize their desperate need of Jesus in this way of sharing the Gospel. My husband and I do not use any other method and have found it to be Biblical and most effective way of sharing the Christian faith.
Get in tone with these videos and watch them daily and in no time you will be able to articulate the Gospel in a Biblical way.
May the Lord give you strength and boldness through the power of The Holy Spirit to step out in faith and share the wonderful news of our Jesus.
Amen.
